Pam McGonigle was born with albinism, a lack of pigment in the hair, skin, and eyes. In addition, her vision was impaired from birth and continues to fade. In grade school, every student had to participate in the annual sixth-grade Olympics. When she won the track race, her running career began and took her all the way to gold in the 1992 Paralympics. She competed with the help of a guide runner but then went on to run to work each day with a guide dog. Now, she works for the American Foundation for the Blind advocating for people of all ages who have visual impairments to live fulfilling and independent lives.

Each week, we highlight the Real Champions in your life! Your family, friends, or colleagues who go the extra mile to help others in their community.
