Your Real Champion® – “1% Better”
The IRONMAN® Triathlon includes 140.6 grueling miles of swimming, biking, and running. Now imagine facing that challenge with weakened muscles. At the age of 18, Chris Nikic set a realistic goal to become more physically fit, improving slowly and becoming “1% Better” each day. Armed with mental toughness and fierce determination, at age 21 Chris became the first person with Down Syndrome to complete IRONMAN®. His mission? To raise awareness of Down Syndrome and “…to honor God by being the best me I can be, so I can be an example to others. I want to change the perceptions and raise the expectations for others like me, so we can all reach our God given potential.”
Each week, we highlight the Real Champions in your life! Your family, friends, or colleagues who go the extra mile to help others in their community.
