Autism and Neurodiversity – Creating a User-Friendly Community – For patients using crutches or wheelchairs, there are ramps to help navigate travel in public spaces. There is no “ramp” for people with autism or other neurodiverse conditions such as Asperger’s syndrome or PTSD. In 2020 Dr. Wendy Ross was our guest to discuss autism and other disorders on the spectrum. She now returns to explain the ongoing progress in making the entire community more “neurodiverse friendly,” including visits to the doctor, supermarket, airport, and elsewhere.

Your Real Champion® – “Brooke Goodspeed and The GET Café”
Brooke Goodspeed is a woman of many talents. As a nurse practitioner, she has spent years working with cancer patients. Then in 2010, her son was born with down syndrome and was later diagnosed with autism. Brooke quickly learned that unlike other medical conditions, the resources were few for people on the spectrum. Since then, Brooke and her husband opened the GET Café, a coffee shop which employs people with disabilities, a space where people with special needs can gather and not feel alone.
Each week, we highlight the Real Champions in your life! Your family, friends, or colleagues who go the extra mile to help others in their community.
