Your Real Champion – “TODAY is a Good Day”
In November of 2014, Martha and Paul Sharkey welcomed the arrival of identical twin girls Mary and Claire, but it was only 23 weeks into Martha’s pregnancy and each baby weighed just over one pound. After just 14 days, Mary earned her angel wings. Claire continued her struggle in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for a total of 103 days. Martha and Paul were very grateful to staff and friends but still felt traumatized and alone from the experience. They wanted to help other parents who would also experience the daily struggles with a baby in the NICU and “TODAY is a Good Day” was founded in 2014. Their foundation currently partners with 23 hospitals in 7 states providing personal and financial support for families with babies in NICU.
