Food is Medicine – Nutritional support of chronically ill patients with meals tailored to their medical needs can improve the patient’s quality of life, increase the ability to tolerate medical treatments, decrease hospital admissions and lower health care costs. Manna is an organization which serves over one million meals a year to chronically ill patients following this evidence-based model of food preparation.

Your Real Champion® – MANNA From Heaven
Sue Daugherty is a hard worker. She began working in her neighborhood supermarket when she was 13 and continued through college. At first she considered being a nurse, but missed the deadline to enroll. Instead she joined her friend in the study of nutrition. In her first job she developed a passion for taking care of patients with HIV/AIDS. Later she joined the staff at Manna – an organization focused on delivering meals and hope to very ill patients with HIV. She then co-authored a paper which showed that providing adequate, medically tailored food for chronically ill patients markedly improved their medical status and lowered health care costs. Her work has had a national impact and she has been recognized with multiple awards and even addressed the US Congress.
